With a smaller enclosure you lose efficiency. A vented enclosure works like a sealed enclosure when the woofer is playing out of the range of the port. Room placement is important for a low frequency driver in home use.

Who teaches youtube creators to be so redundant? The title says 'Sealed vs. Ported'. The intro says the same thing, then you get the annoying loud intro music, and then you get the same thing 'sealed or ported', and then, cringe, he tells you that a sealed enclosure is sealed and a ported on is ported. Nearly every professional video does this.

I have a ported home sub and its tight and accurate with no port noise whether its music or movies. I find the ported speakers in general sound better. I have literally drilled ports in speaker cabinets that didnt originally have them to make speakers sound better

Ported costs more to build, store and ship, and is bigger, so a fair comparison is hard to make. You could give the sealed sub a better amp or driver and it might end up giving better overall performance.

4 minutes in, in regards to the "overshooting" of ported subs, and the sealed sub sucking the cone back in, I mean that's inaccurate. Ported subs actually have much higher internal air pressures than sealed, due to the backpressure of the ports. If you look at the excursion of each, the sealed sub will actually move much more than a ported sub. Near the tuning frequency the cone is actually very still on a ported sub which is why you always get a big impedance dip, that backpressure is holding the cone in place. All you have to do is cover up the port while it's playing a bass note and you can see that it will instantly start to move more. This is the opposite of what this guy is saying. The only time this is true is when it's below the tuning frequency and the driver is unloaded, it will flop like a fish out of water, very sloppy. Acting like this is the norm for all frequencies just isn't reality.

Why have you stopped production of the sub6? People need a compact but hi-fi audiophile grade sub to listen to their records without flooding small rooms with tons of base... We are in need of small but audiophile grade subs! Not power hungry but musically rich and precise. There is no chance one can find a sub6 on the market any more. That shows the actual market interest in this product and not in huge ported woofers. Of course price is to be considered. If you manage to come with a nice design, well built, musical and compact subwoofer around EUR 150-200 (for EU market) it will be sold in a blink of an eye. Better EUR150. 😉 If Edifier can do it you can also.

I prefer large sealed subs. Feels like you can get the best of both worlds. When I can dig deep and loud without port noise it’s a win

I have a TV who's center point was lower than the TV mount bracket, some how I got it in my head that I should subtract the difference from the target TV center height rather than add it. Once I saw the video it made perfect sense, you saved my patchwork on my wall and added aggravation.

I have the right diameter screw, but unsure what length I would need how many complete turns of a screw is recommended to be enough to hold 100 pound TV. My TV has m8 screws I put a black line on the screw to determine complete turns, it first hits was able to only get about two complete turns with the stand even though the M8 is pretty thick two turns seemed like not very much to support 100 pound TV? Should I go with the next longer screw and use spacers to get three or four turns at least? I was hoping that you mentioned the minimum number of recommended revolutions for mounting screws. Thanks

Useful. So, if my turntable is hooked up to to a preamp, I have to use the RCA input instead of the phono input. The problem is that I need my RCA input for my other audio devices. I know there is a 3.5mm jack on the front of the tuk, but I don't want cables running out the front.

I understand that analog signals can only be transmitted via electrical current. Why don’t computers have an optical output? Would a DAC’s quality be best represented by being feeded an optical signal or an electrical signal?

I think Im more confused now. So what do you need to listen to what some people call high res music and saying that you need a DAC for that. Is that a DAC connected to a lesser DAC?

Question for you, I record my band jam sessions on my phone... I then connect my android phone from USB C into HDMI into the tv... Then I come out of the tv OPTICAL into my DAC box OPTICAL... Then, out of my DAC box, L an R RCA into my MIXING board L an R stereo channel... Then obviously out of the MIXING board I have my SUBWOOFER and two PA SPEAKERS... Is this ok, bc it sounds great to me... My DAC box is no longer working after 3yrs so I'm looking to get a (Douk Audio ST-01 PRO 200W Bluetooth Amplifier) in replacement of the DAC... Just wanted to see if I could get your advice... Great videos!!!

Landed on this channel trying to learn about DACs and I see that you have a great teaching skill of explaining things that are complicated for novice audio enthusiasts in simple terms by comparing it with other products we take for granted.

The SPDIF cable is subject to the same interference as the analogue as its constructed the same way out of the same materials. That leaves the toslink as the only dgital input not subject to external interference by electro magnetic devices. While the toshiba cable can be a superior transmission method the standards of what can be delivered via toslink have never been updated as its really glorified fishing line, not fibre, but will be fine for 2 channel. I have strange visions of a speaker drying to make sense of a SPDIF transmission, when I would have thought the electronics on the back plate would have done that.

For years DACs have been built into everything audio and computers to both input and output analogue from an internal sourced digital file or reverse to store analogue as a digital file. That has not changed. So. Why do we have to have all of a sudden a new product called a DAC that sits in front our already DAC equipped audio equipment to make it work. Is it a product we don't need invented by people who want to sell a fibre cable rather than use an SPDIF connection or RCA or even USB. We even have digital amps described as DACs when all they are is an amplifier that work like any that have been made for a whole generation and longer. As an IT person of over 50 years I can tell you that your explanation of a DAC was not brilliant, It was confusing. And you gave no plausible reason for anyone to buy one. Especially when they probably have several in the house or shed already. But I suppose that if one charges enough one can sell anything to those who must have the new name in the shop.
